booth1.jpg

Now is your chance to submit a project in our exhibition, Successful Failures: 30 Years of Lumpens, Radical Media and Building Communities of the Future, at the Chicago Cultural Center Michigan Avenue Galleries.
.
We have installed an example of the type of booth that we have used during our Version Festivals and MDW Fairs. Inspired by these many fairs in the past, the upcoming return of the MDW Fair in 2022, and Critical Art Ensemble’s inclusive Documenta 13 project, folks can use this booth in our 30th anniversary exhibition at the Cultural Center. We hope you’ll consider showing your stuff.
.
The NFO XPO (pronounced "info expo" and originally initiated by Daniel Tucker ) brought individuals, art groups and community orgs together to exchange information and ideas as well as provide a public platform for each person or group to present themselves. We saw it as a trade show for experimental art, emerging spaces, and radical exchange. It was our version of what an art fair could be.
.
Through the simple presentation format of a booth or table, based on a science fair model, we facilitated straightforward exchanges about what is going on locally in various communities, from disparate neighborhoods in Chicago, to cities all over the world.
.
Media and art collectives, anti-globalization initiatives, community projects, alt spaces, and other art/activist initiatives are all invited to submit a proposal.
.
NFO XPO projects that are accepted will be given one week for the work to be displayed. Installations are on Tuesday and de-installations are the following Monday.
.
Specifications of the booth:
.
The booth is located in the 1st floor north gallery off Michigan Avenue. The booth has three interior walls and one exterior wall for use.
- The middle wall is 8 ft high, 8 feet wide
- The left and right interior walls are 5 feet wide and 8 feet high.
- There is an additional exterior wall on one side of the booth that is 8 feet high by 8 feet wide. You may use it if you want.
.
The booth is made of 5/8" MDF board laminated with melamine. Works may only be mounted with tape or other removable fasteners. No nails or screws are allowed.
.
It is best that your project be ready to go as we will assign a date for your installation. If you cannot install on the date given for your installation, your time slot could be forfeited and given to another group or artist. There are 12 slots open starting November 2, 2021 through January 31, 2022.
.
Please describe your project in one paragraph and submit up to 3 images/sketched of the work/project to be shown.
